Important of correct decision at correct time when ‘Rejecting’ any lot of Raw materials/Products

It has been noticed ,learned and listened that ‘Engineer means ‘Decision maker’ and should have ‘Engineering sense’ and I also agreed with it. Most important anyone can do anything but same thing performed by an Engineer 👨‍💻,is in easiest way and simple form not complicated and complex.

My first manager when he was given charge of ‘Receiving Inspection Engineer 👨‍💻’ said ‘Faiz your job is critical job’ and he was so good 😊 who said that i will take you in your office’ .I still remember his sentence and after that all my boss after & after repeated same sentence.

When any rejection happened with raw materials for me, it’s become very responsible to cross check, confirm reason of rejection, check more quantity,QC inspector’s comment is matching with my cross check reason of rejection or not. When I am become confident then prepare rejection report and take it for approval with QC Manager. My QC Manager has so much trust on me that he never asked any questions and signed on it. Before he was also in pressure during rejection of lot that’s why before rejection of lot I personally talk to him and discuss with him that reject or not. Later he told me follow ‘procedures’.

Mean time when line rejection happened I take necessary action with that materials with the help of  line QC Engineer and line QC Inspector. I cross check complaints of line QC Inspector and try to understand where’s rejection,why defects ,how many quantity,why not this defects caught at QC receiving area and also check available quantity in warehouse that there’s defects or not from that lot, after that prepare report and send to purchase department for further communication with suppliers for taking necessary corrective action. 

I remember when line rejection of Compressor was rejected 🙅‍♂️ when found defect at line , hold rest of quantities at warehouse and prepare materials rejection report for available quantity of warehouse and at line. QA Manager of LG,South Korea came to Riyadh for their reviews and to understand reasons of rejection.

I spent whole day with him and he cut one compressor with hex-a blade ,take piston from their and found rusty in a part and he take it to LG,South Korea Factory 🏭.

I have shown full confidence, use Engineering sense and taken correct decisions during new sample evaluations of alternate supplier by doing evaluations based on given drawings, specification by R&D and based on in house test report by using different instruments and tools. During my tenure in Riyadh’s Factory 🏭 I found falt in drawing and specification.

I never afraid with any rejection of lot and disapproved of Sample.Because I have taken decision based on valid reason and evidence. My decision was reviewed by Operation Director,R&D Manager,Plant Maintainance Manager,Sales Manager, Purchase Manager, Production Manager,Production planning,Finance & Account Manager ,TQM Manager and Vice President of Manufacturing and by the way no one ☝️ questioned me for my decision.

Now few years later I joined a trading company as a QC Engineer 👨‍💻 (Product) in Guangzhou, China.

Here my first product was to inspect ‘Air Cooler’ , I was familiar with raw materials of desert cooler and with this product but I have to inspect Air Cooler and found ‘RPM’ of Air cooler out of specification which was given in Performance invoice from supplier.

It was challenging for me that inspection,I wasn’t going alone but I was with ‘Supplier Chain Director’ and ‘China office manager’. More challenging was when I was going for inspection with ‘CEO’, ‘Supply Chain Director’ & China Office Manager’ and product was ‘Insect Killer’ , most interesting 🧐 that in front of all above personalities instead of become any fear of any one, I found defect with that product, supplier was giving rubbish reason that because of weather it’s tube isn’t working, but CEO & Director also become agreed to reject but next day supplier also become agreed, ready to rework for it .I remember 

‘Humidifier’ was also rejected by me that vapor wasn’t coming from it and Factory rework with it then shipped.My Company place order & confirm order with six speed of motor but in actual I found five speed and lot rejected for rework.There are many situations like when I was testing a Standing Fan, I found and checked ‘RPM’ at all speed from 1 to 6, my finding was speed 4 and 5 has same ‘RPM’ and rejected that lot, Factory agreed with me.

Same case with speed of Motor I found  speed 1 & 2  working same.Electing Heater’s reason of rejection that found which was first started from half to end instead of starting 1st to half.

I have given above examples of rejected lot that shows my Decision taking capabilities because my decisions wasn’t only matter for a Factory but also importing country Saudi Arabia.Means to say I am taking decisions where is a Factory in China 🇨🇳 and this decision was for my Company’s office in Riyadh and Guangzhou .These decisions was reviewed by management for their further decisions either canceled order, rework or Compensation to Factory 🏭.

But I observed some where, that some times line rejection reached 20%, it’s mean ‘Receiving Inspection’ isn’t checking quality of raw materials seriously 😒 and sincerely, it’s mean supplier isn’t taking corrective action and receiving inspection is failed in follow up with suppliers.It is also probabilities of chances failed in taking decisions for a rejection of a lot that’s why high percentage of line rejection.
